Thank You
Accommodation
We have accommodation available on-site for most guests, which are mostly shared flats containing two bedrooms, a living room and kitchen. Breakfast will be provided in your flats but you are welcome to bring any food or snacks that you would like. Where possible we have tried to put families and friends together in flats, but we hope that if you are with someone you don’t know yet that you will leave with new friends!
To find the accommodation we have provisionally allocated you to along with the cost please click the link below:
As RSVPs come through we may have to amend the room allocations a bit, to maximise as many people staying on-site as possible. We have made the pricing as fair as we can but please contact us if you have any concerns.
There are a handful of people who we have not been able to accommodate on site. We have found nearby accommodation which you can book if you wish, detailed in your search results.
To pay for the accommodation please make a bank transfer to our account details below.
Name: Neave Shaw
Sort Code: 04-00-03
Account Number: 38940963
If you intend to stay on-site, please inform us and pay by no later than 20 July for us to pay the venue. If you have decided to stay offsite please inform us as soon as possible so we can reallocate rooms.
If you become unable to attend before 20 July, we can refund you the money paid for accommodation. After 20 July we cannot guarantee that we will be able to refund you.
Dress Code
As you may have seen on our invitations, we will be having a little ‘soirée’ the night before the wedding, with black tie attire in the downstairs rooms of the castle and garden (if the weather holds up).
This is just a chance for us to dress up and have a little pre-wedding fun. We’d love it if you’re willing to join in. Below we have put some pictures of the types of things you could wear but please wear anything that makes you feel a little fancy!
For the main event we would love it if you could embrace a sense of ‘old world glamour’. The venue is a beautiful castle and we think it would be fun if our guests matched the vibe by dressing in their finest. There’s no way to be overdressed.
Think rich colours and fabrics – like silk, velvet or tulle – that make you feel like you belong in a castle. The bridesmaids will be in dark green so please avoid that.
Kilts (for any Scots) and other country’s traditional wear are of course welcome. We have put some pictures below, but the most important thing is that you feel comfortable and glamorous.
Getting Here
Firstly we want to thank everyone for travelling so far to come to our wedding.
The address of the venue is:
Drumtochty Castle, Auchenblae, Laurencekirk AB30 1TP
If you are driving, parking is available on-site.
The nearest train station is Laurencekirk. A taxi will be required to get to the venue.
The nearest airport is Aberdeen, which is about a 45 minute drive from the venue.
Uber is available in the area but, unfortunately, Bolt is not.
In the Area
We know that many guests are taking the opportunity to explore Scotland.
If you are looking to explore a whisky distillery, we would highly recommend Fettercairn Distillery. As the main whisky we have chosen to have at our wedding, we simply have to recommend it! This is the closest distillery to the venue and offers a wonderful tour followed by a great tasting of their whisky at various ages. There are also many more well known distilleries not too far away.
Our venue sits in the foothills of the Cairngorms, the UK’s largest national park. There are many wonderful towns and villages which are well worth a visit as you make your way to us, including Ballater, Braemar, Tomintoul and Pitlochry. They all boast lovely cafes, restaurants and pubs as well as making good places to set a base for hiking, golf or other trips.
With many golfers in the family, it also seems right to point out a few courses. There are 13 courses in the Cairngorms National Park, where you can find yourself teeing off surrounded by pine forests and mountains.
Gifts and Registry
As you are travelling so far to join us, we do not expect any gifts and are so grateful that you will be with us on our special day.
However, if you generously feel that you would like to give us a gift we have a couple of options.
Firstly, we have set up a fundraising page for the MND Association Charity, if you wish to donate.
Second, we have made a list of physical gifts and various experiences for our honeymoon.
FAQs
Is the food vegan?
Yes, our wedding is vegan! It feels funny for us to serve meat at our wedding since we have both been vegan for over 7 years. We do understand, however, that your morning cuppa or coffee won’t be right unless it is how you normally have it, so we’ll allow some cow juice in your flats (unless you are also vegan!).
What do we do for breakfast?
Breakfast will be provided within your self-contained flats for you to cook in the kitchens.
How do we pay?
Please see the accommodation section above for payment details.
Due to the number of guests and rooms, we have assigned the rooms based on group size and families. If there’s an issue, please contact us and we will see if we can change things for you.
Where will my children stay?
We have a suitably dank and dark dungeon under the castle if that works?
Seriously though, if you have young children (under 10) you may notice that you have been assigned one of the flats which has a sofa bed in it. This means that your family will have its own self-contained flat with 1 bedroom and a sofa bed which is at a reduced price than a full two bedroom flat.
What time can I check in and out?
You can check into your accommodation from 4 o’clock on Friday, giving you plenty of time to settle in and get ready for the soiree in the evening!
Since many people are travelling a long way if you find yourself at the venue a little early, don’t worry as someone can still help you to your accommodation. Please note that there may not be anyone there to help if you arrive before 2 o’clock, though.
What do I wear?
We have had lots of questions about the dress code. The night before is black tie, so our guests can have fun with us, dressing up for our first night at the castle.
The wedding attire has been listed as “old world glamour”. This is just a fun suggestion from us and not a strict code.
We love the idea of getting dressed up and feeling glam but we want you to have a good time so if you’re unsure, please wear what you feel comfortable in.
Can I get you a gift?
Many guests have very kindly asked us what gifts we would like. Truthfully, we couldn’t ask for more than if you come celebrate with us.
However, we have attached a registry link here and on the main page.
We would like to reiterate that we are not expecting any gifts and that you travelling all this way to be with us is the only gift we need.
